This is more of a vent than a specific insurance issue so I thought I would post here.
It is almost time to renew my car insurance and More Than have sent me there renewal letter for the coming year and of course it is £202 or 36% more expensive than last year with no claims in that time.
I thought I would give them the opportunity to requote before I made the switch to another company so I called the renewal line number on the letter.
Of course, my call is eventually answered by a thickly accented overseas call rep who had to go through the painful process of confirming all of my details despite me saying that nothing had changed (car, job, address, motoring history all the same as they have on file from last year)
After a long wait while he disappeared to "see what he could do" he came back and said "Sorry, we cannot cover you for business use", which I had last year..... "Social and domestic only..."
I looked at the renewal certificate that was enclosed for the coming year and it clearly stated the same level of cover as last year, with business use included.
So that begged the question, "What if I had let my policy automatically renew and then I had an accident while travelling to see a client?" No answer.....
He then offered to put me through to a supervisor who couldn't answer the question either, only that "The underwriter would have to take a view on it"
So after wasting nearly 20 minutes of my day I have decided to use an insurer that CAN actually offer the level of cover that I need instead of one that may or may not, to be decided AFTER you have had an accident.
