BT - calling plan and broadband contracts end at different times

Hi,

I pay £35 direct debit to BT every month. That includes broadband, calling plan and line rental.

I am in credit as we do not use our home phone for telephone calls therefore the calling plan I'm paying for is just not needed.

I have been online to BT's chat help an have asked when my contract ends:

calling plan - September 2011
broadband - March 2012

There's a difference because I remember renewing my broadband as they 'offered me a cheaper deal' Stupid I was because I think it was a ploy to not get me to jump in September as they have changed how they bill over usage - instead of paying £1 for every gb you go over they now charge me in increments of £5 for 5gb. That is how I'm interpreting the email notification anyway. Not happy as I only ever go over by 1gb

Anyway, I digress.

The BT advisor told me I can contact BT when the automatic renewal is due to occur and cancel the calling plan.

My question is can I have the line rental and broadband without the calling plan?

If so I have been paying for a 'package' I did not want or need and feel a fool.

Any help you can give me would be very much appreciated.

licious x

BT do not offer line rental without a calling plan of some sort.

The basic plan is Unlimited Weekend Calls which comes at no extra charge.

  • thanks for that OldGreyFox.

I wonder what is going to happen then because I don't want to renew my calling plan come September as I will want to leave in March next year when my broadband contract ends.

    Any idea?

If your on one that has a rolling contract eg free evening and weekend calls then they should give you the opportunity a month before hand of changing it to a monthly contract of your choice.

If your on one that does not roll over when the minimum term ends your just go on a monthly contract.
  • Oh excellent, I'm clear on that now. Yeah Free evening and weekend calls so I will contact them before September and request a monthly contract that I can cancel at anytime.

I appreciate your help thank you.
