Libya- The Cost

Iraq wasnt about Iraq oil. It was (I believe) about regional stability, which, in the end, drums down to western energy security.
Unfortunately, explaining that to the retard levels of intelligence demonstrated by the majority of the UK population would make it impossible to come clean on.
How have the invasions on the Mid East helped stability?
Seems a bit daft how we are praising and encouraging all these uprisings in the region when they can only decrease stability.0 -

I guess the whole have demonstrated the geo-political superiority of the USA. The idea of an Islamic calphate superstate now lies in tatters and the so called Clash of Civilisation/War against radical Islam is already winding down.0 -
How do you 'cost' a war?
1. Take the view that the Army, Air Force, and Navy are a fixed cost anyway. Simply add up the additional cost of (a) bombs, (b) shells, (c) bullets, (d) extra fuel to fly to Lybia......
2. Count all the guys involved, and equipment. Feed them in as a 'cost centre' and mount up the cost of wages, fuel, food, spares, shlt & Shells....
3. Count the number of guys involved, turn this into, say, 11% of total UK armed forces. Allocate the 'cost' as 11% of the entire UK defense budget....
You will get entirely different answers depending upon which tack you take. Hence all you'll get from politicians is the cost they 'want' it to be.
A good example of this is foreign aid. Let's say there's an earthquake in Guatamala (or anywhere). UK Prime Minister (and others) fight amongst themselves to be the first to stand up and announce £10 million of 'aid'. Some British ship happens to be 100 miles offshore. It hoves to. A few sailors get off. Deliver a couple of hundred blankets. Assess the situation. Then bu44er off.
Then it's extremely easy to 'cost' this little escapade as having cost £10 million on a 'fully absorbed cost' basis. Aren't we generous?

Maybe we should just cosy up to everone that does not pose a direct threat to us. Switzerland seem to, and does very well out of it.0

we dont get a choice I am afraid.
Libya's oil is of a very high quality. In some areas, they pump it out clear of impurities and pretty much can run a diesel straight off it. very "sweet" oil
.... it also contains revitalift, pro-retinol A, SPF 15, and elastocyl.... which gives us a good reason for bombing Libya. "Because they're worth it."0 -

Personally, based on the war so far, I'm less concerned as to what it costs, and more concerned that we are actually helping....that is, if we are.
The news will no doubt feed us what we want to hear and governments want us to hear. However, on hearing about likely forced rape, massacre, and even the absolutely confirmed reports, I'm glad we are doing our bit to help, and happy that we are doing it in a way which, to all intents, is intended to shelter the civilian.
As long as it's not an illegal war, and civilian blood isn't being shed because of us (bar the unfortunate mistake), then the cost, so long as it's not hundreds of billions, is a price worth paying IMHO....much better than some of the other things we spend our money on. Such as chipping in to bail out countries that are going to default anyway in the name of politics.
As I say, I'm aware of the news thats fed to us and aware we won't even hear the full story. But this war seems one worth fighting, in the manner we are currently fighting it.0 -
