  • welcome ... seriously!

  • Well i personally have given cd-wow about £20 of business they wouldnt have had otherwise and you will probably find that is the reason they are still allowing this to happen,

  • eh?

    not a chance.

theyre allowing it to happen because they either dont know about it yet, or they cant fix it.

There are a number of different ways and reasons that codes are able to be reused, some easier than others, but most of them appear to be because of system security glitches, or lack of security measures on their part. As they're such a huge company and have 1000's of orders going through hourly, it's fairly easy to see how an exploit like this can slip through the net. They will eventually find out though.

CD wow often reject sales which have voucher use and affiliate discount used in the same transaction - they're usually hot on multiple discount abuse in general. They most certainly would not approve of multiple reuse of voucher codes [just see their T & C's]. They arent letting this slip by consciously, as it will be in no way profitable for them to do so.

£20 of business they wouldnt of had? that's not how business's remain in profit. £20 net of a £50* gross sale [gross in this case meaning before voucher use] is a sale thats detrimental to them because it'll most probably put them in a negative margin.

The extra vouchers being used will not have been budgeted for in their strategy either.

I'm not condeming anyone for taking advantage of this exploit btw. But at the same time if you are using them, at least see it for what it is, and don't try to dress it up as positive for cd wow, because its not, it's positive for you.

*Used as an example, not speculation on your purchase.

  • Just out of interest, where did you find the £50 voucher from in the first place. Also how often do they distribute £5 codes?
  • So if I'm reading this right - because I used my reusable voucher on a £4.99 item yesterday it won't work again? Tried to use today and only offering me a penny off which would be the balance of the £5.

I feel dumb if thats the case for being too greedy and trying to get something for nothing. I would have stuck to items over £5... :(
  • I think if you use the 1p on the voucher it will reset itself after about 8 hours and you will be able to use the full £5 next time.

And spending £5 or just slightly over would make you less greedy?*

And yes, it's true. The code only retains the unspent pence on it after spending less than £5.

You will be able to use that penny over and over again though if you want to ;)

*greedy being your word, not mine

Have you actually tried this, or know someone who has? If yes, then it doesn't work for all codes. The people I know who tried it, it didn't reset for. But it's useful to know that it works for some.

    edit.
I just tried it on a spare code I have which I knew only had a value of £1.51 [it use to be £5]. I used the £1.51 code a few days ago and it still only gives the same value when reused again now.

  • This thread isnt about the morals of using the voucher. Im not going to sit and justify to anyone what i buy and how.

I would suggest if you are opposed to the re-use of vouchers you start a different thread over on discussion board to debate it !

  • Right i've started giving away my £5 codes that I don't need, i've given one away but I still have a few so PM me if you need one. I'm keeping the two bona-fide reusables as I still have a few more book orders to put through.

Btw i'm currently up to 30 orders received with another ten currently in the system. :D
