Wardrobe essentials

Imagine this: your wardrobe burnt down, completely. And your insurance company has paid you a large amount of money to renew your wardrobe. What would be the absolute basics you had to have?
For me, it would be:
Underwear - basic plain stuff, some sexy lacy bits, and some extra support for sports.
Outwerwear - a classic fitted black wool coat, a leather jacket, a shorter jacket, a mac (for spring/autumn showers), a blazer.
Tops - plain vest tops, a few going out tops, a white shirt, a jumper/hoodie
LBD
Bottoms - denim shorts, black trousers, a pair of tight jeans, a pair of boyfriend jeans, a pencil skirt for work, a pair of jogging bottoms, gym shorts
A dressing gown
Accessories - good quality leather belt, a floaty scarf, a huge warm winter scarf, a beanie hat for bad hair days
Shoes - smart black pumps (flat or on a low heel) for work, 'fun' pumps for casualwear, trainers, winter boots.
Obviously there would be more, but I think these would be the bare essentials. What do you think? What would you add?

I would love it haha! If it was insured and the insurance company gave me like 50k to renew my wardrobe! Ohhh the possibilities!
  • Oooooh - tough question! For me it would be:-

Underwear:- Plenty of hold-it-all-in knickers and good supportive bras
Bottoms:- One pair of smart black trousers, two pairs of straight leg jeans, two pairs of cropped trousers, a pair of white linen trousers and one pair of black leggings.
Tops:- Two plain short sleeve scoop neck tops and two long sleeved and a white shirt (preferably from Bravissimo;)), one hoody, a thick warm jumper and two cardigans, one lightweight and the other warmer.
Skirts:- a smart pencil skirt and a denim skirt.
Dresses: One long black dress and one short (It would have to be my 60's style dress I bought from Next recently though - I :heartpuls it soooo much!)
Outerwear:-one warm winter coat, one denim jacket, a smart black or white jacket and a waterproof jacket.
Shoes:- Plain black pumps, black or brown knee boots, a pair of ankle boots, a gorgeous pair of heels for going out and plain black heels for work .......and snow boots as I live in the back of beyond and get snowed in alot!
Accessories:- big brown belt, narrow brown belt, scarf, gloves and hat for winter, two pairs of black opaque tights.
Nightwear: Pair of pyjamas and an all in one fleece "tellytubby" suit for winter (yes, embarassingly I DO own one of these, but it is a godsend in winter as out house is Frrrrrrrrreeeezzzzing!)

I've always wanted a capsule wardrobe actually......and I think this list would cover it! I am assuming my jewellery hasn't been burnt in the wardrobe fire by the way:rotfl:as I could accessorize alot of this for a night out using my vast collection!

This thread is going to give me bad dreams! I shall ponder and come back with a list though, just to be prepared!
  • Actually after doing this, I have had a massive wardrobe cull, since it has made me realise I don't NEED half the clothes I own - so thanks to katerinasol for making me finally get off my backside and do it! Looking forward to reading other people's lists too.......

Noooooooooo:eek: Does this include the stuff stashed in the attic:rotfl:

I'll try but I dont do minimal;)

As basics I would need -

    Uggs
    Comfy trackies and hoodies
    Jeans
Padded bras - can do without knickers:rotfl:
    Floaty tops and jumpers
    Pyjamas and slippers
If its winter then I have to have a warm coat preferably fake fur

I refuse to do without a decent handbag so at least one of those is a must for me

Did the fire touch my make up and toiletries? ok I cant think about that but if my make up went that would be the first thing I would replace without a doubt:D oh gosh now I'm worrying about my hair extensions..........time to leave the thread I think:D
Thank you for this site Martin
The time for change has come
    Good luck for the future

I had a nightmare caused by this thread last night !!

    :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I think I may be too attached to my current wardrobe - I have so many items of clothing I have collected over the years that the thought of them all burning to ashes is horrible.

    I don't do capsule....

My darling darling Uggs, seagrass flipflops, Hunter wellies, killer heels.
Tshirt dress, LBD, black leggings, summer dress, boyfriend cardigan, M&S bras and knickers... I think I could be prepared for most situations with these! Not to say I don't love the rest of them!
