Regarding price I'm not sure there is much Ogem can do other than make sure they are fair and clear.

Well they have certainly failed in that respect, haven't they?

Agreed, I meant going forward, you know if they were going to do the job properly. Assuming they suddenly became able to do their job we have to at least concede the possibility that there may be legitimate reasons for price increases.

To give you an idea how pathetic Ofgem has been in the past, it is only necessary to look at Ofgem’s sham of an investigation into Npower, when Npower deliberately overcharged its affected customers in 2007/8, as reported on this forum.

The best Ofgem could manage was to persuade Npower to pay back a mere £1.2 million. Ofgem argued that no other result was possible, but Consumer Focus got on the case and Npower was obliged to agree to refund a further £70 million to its affected customers.

Ofgem may have its uses, but as far as consumer protection is concerned, it has a very poor track record to live down. The same chief executive of Ofgem has been in charge of Ofgem for the last seven years. I feel its time for a change.
