Plumbing for dishwasher/washing machine

Just a quick question... I've been to view a house and there was only a dishwasher in the kitchen. The washing machine was in the garage. I'd have no need for a dishwasher and I don't fancy going outside every time I want to use the washer, so could a dishwasher be swapped for a washing machine with no additional work? AFAIK it's just a cold water feed in and a waste pipe out for a dishwasher and most washing machines (I'd get one that needed a cold water feed only). Am I right or is it not a straight swap?

I suspect its going to be a physical issue more than a plumbing issue.

Yes, it's a straight swop, providing there is enough room.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0
