Windows navigation 'click' sound happens on its own!

Hi everyone,
Have noticed today that the windows navigation 'click' sound can be heard even when I've not clicked a link etc when you normally hear it. It is particularly annoying because when it happens it clicks off the webpage or email etc that you are using, which means you have to keep clicking back onto the page you are using so you can scroll, or carry on typing etc.
I've run a scan with Malwarebytes and Microsoft Security Essentials and nothing found.
Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this, and if some software is working in the background that could be trying to do something with the 'clicks'.
Many thanks
(EDIT - I seem to have narrowed it down to Outlook causing the problem. I only seem to get clicks when Outlook is open. Not sure if that helps with suggestions or not?)
(EDIT 2) - Now hearing it with a totally blank desktop and no programs running. Can see from one of my sidebar gadgets that the disk drive is popping up to 100% usage quite frequently when I have nothing running. Of course there is the list of background processes but taking it up to 100% is worrying and feels that something big is running in the background.

Are you using a laptop or desktop? Could it be a faulty mouse?Estate Agent, Web Designer & All Round Geek!0

disable the start navigation sound in control panel, see if it continues.
you should be able to see the process knocking it up to 100% in task manager!!

Hi there, thanks for the couple of suggestions. I have now tracked down the little blighter - it was Gladinet Cloud desktop, a bit of software that is for accessing cloud storage and mounting it as a drive on your system. Seems it started to try and access my storage for some reason and it was this clicking in the background. Now disabled. Cheers.0
