buying a Kindle for a friend

Options
Its a special big birthday for a friend of mine in August and she has asked for a Kindle from myself and another friend.

As a joke, we wanted to download a bit of a raunchy ebook before giving it to her but I'm not sure how this is possible, as I understand you have to register it as the user.

Does anyone know if we can do this, without messing up the registration for her?

Many thanks

Easy enough to do - you can register it as yourself, download the book, and then when she gets it she can re-register with her own Amazon account. My brother bought me one last year, and had registered it as himself when he tried it initially; all I had to do was re-register it with my own account.

AFAIK you cannot register the Kindle with someone else though.

I disagree - my Kindle was definitely linked to my brother's Amazon account (I assume it asks for an account the first time it's turned on, as I know he checked that it worked before giving it to me as a present). It was a 30 second job for me to go in to the settings and change his Amazon account to mine.

Then I rescind my comment, ISTR someone was asking about this somewhere else & got told otherwise.

Just download Calibre and then use that to put books on the kindle, job done

    http://calibre-ebook.com/

Oh and by the way it will convert any ebook format into the right format for your ereader.

I use it with my Kobo and the wife uses it with her Kindle
