supplier has been billing me wrongly for 9 years

For the last 9 year the electric supplier has been only billing me for 5 digits instead of 6 even they knew from day one that the meter was a 6 digit meter and as i am a business i have been re billed for the last 6 years for a nice £39,000
i have been correcting their bills if esimated with the 6 digit meter reading for many years
i have spoken to electric supplier and they say it is my fault and the ombusman they can help but not straight away
any help would be greatly accepted
thanks in advance

  • if you`ve been correcting them then its the suppliers fault not yours - also , by law they have to read your meter every 2 years , so again they are at fault if they have failed to read it in 9 years.

    and

they can only back bill you for 1 year - not 6.

    Wrong on two counts sorry.

    1. There is a no law that says the supplier must read the meter at least once every 2 years.
(It's an operating licence condition, and the electric one is not as strict as the gas one that makes them read the meter at least once every 2 years)

    2. As the OP is speaking of a business, the 12 month backbilling rule does not apply.

Why did you not correct each meter reading they took, and presumably billed you for?
Why did you let it go for so long, when they were taking readings you knew were incorrect?
At the very least, why did you not mention this to the meter reader - calling once a month for 9 years I would expexct you were on first name terms by now?

If you knew the meter readings were incorrect, and you run your own business, you presumably knew you had underpaid to the sum of almost £40,000!
How much longer did you expect to get away with this???

the meter reader was taking a six digit reading and sending it to supplier as 6 but the supplier where only billed 5 digits and when the bills came they where around the same amounts on the bill as last supplier so i thought it was correct even the new correct bills only have 5 digits on the bloody bill
Why did you let it go for so long, when they were taking readings you knew were incorrect?

i did not know the bills where incorrect as in line with other business of similar nature and last supplier only billed 5 digits but said there system could only do 5 digit so never questioned it when bills where very similar
At the very least, why did you not mention this to the meter reader - calling once a month for 9 years I would expexct you were on first name terms by now?

as already said the meter readers where taking 6 digit readings and have access to the building where the meters are and only have about once or twice a years estimate bills or they got day and night reading wrong way round
most months i would not see readers and most months it was a different reader
If you knew the meter readings were incorrect, and you run your own business, you presumably knew you had underpaid to the sum of almost £40,000!

firstly i did not know the meter readings where wrong and yes i run my own business but as said adove the reading where taken correctly and i have give 6 digit reading when estimated but i did not know that the bills where wrong as similar the last suppliers bills and only 5 digit as last supplier i
How much longer did you expect to get away with this???

when they rebilled me the other day i was i total shock as i was not execpting toget away with anything as i was did not know they where billing me incorrectly
my accountant has even said to me that i was paying more than most for electricity on my size business and a book keeper once a month checking bills too
so how the hell do you think i was getting away with anything
