Blockbuster - DVD tarting

Options
 I just wanted to warn anyone thinking about joining Blockbuster on their free 1 month trial via this site. I have had loads of problems which started 1 week before the end of my free trial. On this site it says you get 28 days to send your DVD's back after the end of the trial period. Blockbuster say it is 7 days and "returned" means "received by them". After watching my last 3 films I returned them all in the same envelope, 5 days before my trial was due to end. The next day they had received 2 of the films and said that 1 was still outstanding? How could that be when they had all been returned together, with their respective cards that are barcoded. I did query with customer services how this could happen, but got some vague response about DVD's getting lost in the warehouse. No good having a barcoding system then, is it? Anyway the upshot of this is that they charged my account for a months service and, guess what, the lost DVD turned up 8 days after the end of my trial period. They then suggested I re-instate my account seeing as I had been charged and it is non-refundable! Decided this was just a scam to get money out of people making use of the free trial and wouldn't want to join such a rubbish service anyway. So BE WARNED, don't touch them.

I did the free trial of Blockbuster back in May 2006, Didn't have that problem.

I then joined Lovefilm for 3 months, then My Movie Stream but have gone back to Blockbuster because if your not only after a free trial but plan to use the service, they are the best. Particually if you want new releases.

If anyone wants this service, try Screen Select. I cancelled my membership with them because they screwed up a couple of times (down to a warehouse fire), and I wasn't really using it, but for many months, had perfect service.

Screen Select are run by Lovefilm. Lovefilm are rubbish.

Blockbuster is by far the best rental service around. Their customer service dept. reply to emails promptly and sort things out quickly. No I don't work for them - I'm a teacher.

Free trials are OK unless you get too greedy and try to get too much for nothing - then they get ya! You don't need me to tell you what the moral of that is.....................
Don't grow up. Its a trap!

    Peace, love and labradors!

I second that. Lovefilm are virtual scam merchants, as evidenced by countless negative reviews all over the web. The Blockbuster service is far superior.

i understand your frustration but if you argued your case strong enough then i'm sure they would have offered you something.

all dvd rental comp's say there are no refund's to try an deter you. keep on at them enough and refuse any reinstaing offer and you will get a refund.

if i was able to get lovefilm to cave i shouldnt imagine you'd have that much of a problem with blockbuster
  • Personally, having been scammed by Lovefilm and Blockbuster both in similair manner, we use Amazon. I have even had DVDS get lost by RM, and they just had me tick the box "I sent these in over x days ago" and immediately sent out my next dvds w/o any hassle.

We also get 10% off ANY DVds they buy from them (great for the big clearance sales or at when it is over £15 so del is free anyhoo)
budget meals can be good meals
  • yep, i nearly got scammed by blockbusters too whilst on the trial period. however for them to change the t&c's whilst i was renting was unjust so i complained and got a refund back, i believe there was an email sent about how the return policy had been changed from 28 to 7 days.
