can any one help please - charity event

Hello all,

Not sure if I'm on the right board or not, apologies if not.

My best friends dad had been given 18 months to live as he suffers from CPD and is awaiting a double lung transplant but looking very unlikely to happen.

Anyway, we are having a charity event to raise awareness of organ donations etc which is being organised by his wife but - and this is the bit I need help with, does anyone know where I could get free/ cheap fabric squares from as we are having a bunting making event as part of the fundraising. Any help would be appriciated.

TIA

If you live near any furniture shops you might want to ask them if they have any old fabric swatches that they are throwing out.

I think fabric for furniture might be a bit thick for bunting (not that I've ever made any, but it's usually cotton!)

However, are you anywhere near the Norfolk Scrapstore, if so it would be worth giving them a call to see if they have any fabric in.

    Also Freegle / Freecycle.

PS this is a good board ...

Set up a facebook page dedicated to your cause. It's really simple to do and easy to maintain - you can then keep it updated with events you are doing and such like.

Then promote it on other pages such as Send In The Troops and they will do shout outs for you and raise awareness of your page and your cause. Facebook has such a huge following that I'm pretty sure there will be people out there willing to donate fabric to you.

There are already lots of other pages doing similar things to yourself that get huge support from the general public. I myself have donated items to many causes on facebook.

I unfortunately don't use fabric in any of my crafting but I wish you the best of luck x

I'd ask for fabric scraps on freecycle but also old clothes that you could use the fabric from.
Visit a jumble sale and buy dresses for pretty floral bunting, old sheets, etc for as little as 20p
  • You could always go through your old clothes you don't want. Maybe order free fabric swatches online..

I just wanted to say good luck. I did a lot of local fundraising a few years ago. One of the most easy and successful ideas was to buy a diary and sell the dates for 50p (the diary is easy to post to different people). Good luck with you fundraising. My thoughts are with you and your friends. x
