Orlando villa problem help

I booked a villa in bahama bay orlando last year to go september this year,it was sorted through holiday-rentals.co.uk and i paid £200 deposit via paypal.

The balance is due on august the 1st so i have emailed the owner several times to find out how they want balance to be paid i have also contacted holiday-rentals explaining the situation but i have still not heard anything. This has been on going for a couple of weeks now.
It just does not feel right to me as i would expect the owner to be getting back to me so i am not happy to send another £500 odd pound, just in case i arrive in Orlando to no accomodation.

Probably highly unlikely but thought i would ask anyway,is there a way i would be able to get my deposit back or should i put it down to experience?

i tried paypal who were as helpful as ever and said it was only possible on material items and only if under 45 days from making payment.

I agree, that does sound a little worrying. I would give the owner a week or so more as they may just be on holiday themselves and unable to respond to emails.

Was there feedback from other people they have rented to? I have recently booked a villa in Orlando direct with the owner and checked their guestbook, how long they had owned the villa, did a google search etc before take the plunge.

I hope it all turns out ok. I have used the same website for booking before and had no problems.

i checked the reviews when booking last may and they were fine but since then there has been no further reviews all are dated 2009,this along with a lack of bookings showing on the yearly planner has made me a little worried.

I have sent them emails last year with questions and the owner always got back to me quickly even when on holiday,it just does not feel right.
I will give them one more week and see what happens.

I think you are right to be concerned, with the market in Florida atm they may well have sold it. I assume the owner is in the UK and you have the address etc, if you do not here back i would go through small claims to get your deposit back.
There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so.

They are in the uk I have phone numbers and email address, going to try and resolve with them/ holiday rentals and if no joy may go down small claims route.

Mmmmm....that does sound big alarm bells! If they have no bookings on their calendar and any up to date feedback I would be very concerned. Did you have any sort of paper contract with booking terms and conditions?

In the meantime - check out alternatives! Go on "The Dibb" which is a fantastic website for any questions about Orlando, including villa hire. The experts there will be able to give you some advice on how to go about finding an alternative or some recommendations. Good luck!
