Use by date on quorn slices - sainsburys

I bought a packet of quorn slices on Sunday 19th for my sons school packed lunch this week. I have just pulled them out of the fridge to make said lunch only to find that the use by date is the 19th (the day I bought them). Im now cross as stupidly I read the date as the 9th July - I know thats my fault, but Im just so miffed as I wouldnt have ever fed them to my son even if I had read the use by date as the 19th. Can I take them back tonight (I have the receipt still) and can I complain or will they just tell me that its my responsibility to check the use by date? I hope someone can advise (Im used to seeing reduced stickers on the stuff that expires immediately)

Just take them back with the receipt for a refund or an exchange if you want 10

Can I do that even though they are out of date?:money: Saving money, saving the environment and saving space (aka decluttering) - my motto this year!0

After talking to the nice people at Quorn, I have started to freeze the slices into individual portions(my daughter is the only veg in the family and we were wasting so much of it because she was unable to eat it in time!). It does say not suitable for freezing but upon asking their CS why it couldn't be frozen while the Quorn pieces can be, I was told it was because they couldn't be certain of peoples freezers and so they couldn't be sure of the quality of the Quorn after defreezing! Since this I have sucessfully frozen the slices into individual portions that defreeze very quickly upon removal from the freezer with no apparent loss of quality(and believe me my daughter is very fussy).
Sainsbury's in my experience are very good about changing things! I would just explain that I was in a hurry when I bought the item and would never have bought them with such a short date on them if I had realised!"Sealed Pot challenge" member No. 138

Well I think that if you can't be sure of the quality of people's freezers then it MUST apply to all things they might put in it.
After all, it's the same freezer whether you put quorn pieces or quorn slices in it, or anything else.
Or are they saying it is OK to put some things in a dodgy freezer, but not others?0 -

I have put things in the freezer that say 'Do not freeze' on them - sometimes I read this after I have put it in the freezer and I am still here.
Only things I wouldn't put in the freezer are eggs, salad items and cream0
