A utility company that answers the phone?

At the end of last year I switched from British Gas to EDF Energy but although the electricity move was smooth, the gas has proved a problem. Despite having a letter from EDF assuring me the start date would be Jan 19th I belive I still remain a BG customer.

I cannot contact EDF. They will not answer the phone and do not reply to emails.

I'm therefore of the view it would be best to switch both gas and electricity elsewhere with the only condition being the new company should have a policy of answering the phone when rung.

Can anyone recommend such a company, please?

Many thanks in advance.

You are likely to get better customer service from one of the smaller providers like Ovo, Ebico or Cooperative Energy.

Perhaps they know it's you and as it's all gone belly up they ignore it.Then again, they seemed to ignore most of mine as well.

Other Energy Companies answering the phone?....no no guarantees in my experience.

It took me 7 emails to get a substantive reply to a query posed to OVO. NPower many more.

    No good news, sorry.:(

Anyone with Sainsburys Energy ? I would be interested to know what their customer service is like before switching. Any input appreciated.
  • Hi there

I am having similar problems with EDF Energy. They do NOT respond to emails or calls. I'm actually on the phone to them now, and have been on hold for 13 minutes. I have submitted a complaint against them here, it's quick and easy:

Just click on "make a complaint" and you can fill it in online.

You can certainly make a complaint there, but 13 minutes is somewhat premature  ... 8 weeks is the usual timeframe you have to wait before escalating the matter

  • You could try GetHuman.... just google gethuman uk. It's advice on how to circumvent automated answering services and talk to a real human being...or at least an employee resembling one.

Hope this helps. I responded to this because I read your query about council tax and have a similar query...plus it was a good read and would like to know how your situation has been resolved.
  • The last official stats I saw had npower leading for call answering of the big 6. Of course whether you get any sense when you do get through is as much a lottery as any other supplier
