lucky Shoes Concealed Shoes & Folk Majic

During the renovation of our 1860 cottage we found a well worn Childs shoe concealed in the wall close to the hearth.
We could not understand why or how it got there but I tried on the internet to see if I could date it.
To my surprise we found that this was an old custom whereby shoes were put in the walls close to openings to ward off evil.
We are not superstitious but we have decided to keep the shoe in the house along with some other bits we have found.
If you are renovating and find old shoes concealed in your house do not be surprised in fact there is a web site dedicated to them. http://www.apotropaios.co.uk/

It was common to brick a cat up in chimneys as well to keep witches away!!
Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.
