If you do decide to use a company to make the claim for you, read their terms and conditions carefully. They will probably charge you a minimum of 25% to 30% (plus VAT) of anything you win.

It's also worth remembering that they base their fee on the amount 'won', even if it's deducted from an outstanding balance. So if you still owe money to a lender and they deduct your refund from the balance, the claim company will still expect you to pay their fee.
  • hmmmm, might have to try and do it myself then, thanks man

    I think it's worth a try.

The information you give to the claims company is exactly the same as you would give to the lender.

is this why most companies wont take people on if they are in a debt management plan?

    It wouldn't surprise me.

Someone on a DMP is unlikely to have enough "spare" cash to pay a fee if they don't get the refund in cash. So ultimately the claims company becomes just another creditor.

    CMC's dont actually do anything!!
They just send a letter with a load made up complaint points that dont relate to the PPI sold (of which weakens your argument)
You can send a letter yourself and avoid the fee's.
Like already said, if you have arrears or defaulted on them, never use CMC's. As redress will be taken off the owed, leaving you with no money to pay their bill.
