Perhaps not the best place to post a question like this, but I was just wondering if anyone had ever relocated from Belfast to London (or indeed anywhere on the mainland). I'm having to relocate with work and am not entirely sure where to begin as regards the practicalities. I just wondered if anyone had any particularly MSE-type tips for doing so as cheaply and practically as possible.

I did it about 20 years ago and then came back. I wish I was doing it again to be honest.

Have you any more details such as whether you are wishing to buy a flat or renting?

In London most things revolve around work. So might be best to concentrate on getting tips from people you work with when you get there.

I Hope they are doubling your current wage  Living in London is VERY expensive. Have you a family here or a home to sell or is it just you yourself transfering over to the Big Smoke ?
I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:

You might need to move into temporary accommodation until you find something more permanent. However, all good employers will be keen to see that you are not out in the streets so to speak and will be keen to see you settled as quickly as possible. You might have to stay in cheap B&B's or hostels for a few days or weeks until you find somewhere better.

With regards to getting relocation expenses, if it was not discussed at the interview, forget it. Unless you are an expert which the firm needs badly and cannot get a suitable person in London, relocation expenses will not be given. Sometimes an advance in wages is given but you usually have to ask for it.

Most firms will expect you to turn up for work on your first day just like anybody else starting a job and not give you special privlidges just because you are coming from out of town.

isnt your company's HR department assisting at all? Where will you be working in London?

You may be better off putting this posting on the House buying, selling and renting board?
