Treating timbers

I completed my house purchase today and I have been advised to replace the roof by the surveyor. He feels the timbers are intact despite some leaks but could not see the wood entering the walls. He also thinks the floor boards throughout are bouncy which could be woodwork. He did not view under floorboards and advised we commission a report but we could not afford it.
I have been advised by friends in the building trade to have the timbers treated while the roof is off as it is easier and therefore cheaper.
What does this treat for and is it expensive. Should we have the floorboards treated and are there any other tests or treatments we should have done?
It is a 3 bed mid terrace solid granite house.
Many thanks.
