looking for hotel in Barcelona

I'm looking for a hotel in Barcelona for 3 nights in September.
I also think I must have been living in a time-warp as when checking on loads of different sites I can't believe some of the prices.

I've been on an all inclusive short cruise for less than the cost of a hotel room!!!

I'm worn out looking at the many various type of accommodation, and would be grateful if anyone can give me any suggestions.

Obviously I want to see all the sights and don't mind walking, also don't want to be in any dodgy areas but would like to sleep at night without earplugs.

Have you thought about staying in an apartment. I've just come back from Barcelona and myself and 6 friends stayed in an apartment we booked through

    http://www.apartmentsramblas.com/

Cheap, centrally located, quiet residential area but close to metro and within walking distance of centre, beach and short taxi ride to bars/restaurants.
  • Thanks for the reply, I had looked at some apartments but not that site, so I'll have a trawl through it. Obviously this is the ways to go especially if there is a group of you.

I'd contacted a hotel and filled out a request form for reservation and put in my credit card details as asked. They then sent me an e-mail saying there were no vacancies. I'm rather concerned about that and have told them so, surely the details shouldn't have been requested if there were no vacancies.

    Hi

Wow what a coincidence - I'm going to barcelona in sept to & have been looking around if you treat your research as a fulltime job for a few days you can get somewhere pretty decent. I use TripAdviser like my bible!! Anyway I was just coming on here to post that that if you are signed up to paypal people are selling groupon vouchers for about £10 that will get you £75.00 off flight & hotel packages. Which could give you a saving if like me you've yet to book a package. Thier are some terms & conditions attached.

Check it out if applicable. I will now go & post the deal I saw.

    Good Luck
  • Hi moneysavvy,
I've booked flights already and just looking for hotels etc.
however looking at the prices I think apartments are the way to go.
but not through price comparisons websites.

Trying to weigh up between paying less for acc. but then possibly shelling out for transport etc.

I've sat harder exams than this!!!!!

....lol.....I know its soooo tough. yes I've seen apartments and was considering these deals until I got the voucher. Look through the hotel list direct on tripadvisor then you have access to the reviews thier and then.

Good Luck to you once again....go with that sporting win attitude...you'll get their....:)

  • I've just looked at the voucher on eBay, just type in Groupon Voucher.

However, the voucher is for flight/hotel combined.

I've found fantastic apartments in Barcelona on Owners Direct.com, has replies about enquiries immediately and am spoiled for choice in all various areas.

The price of some hotels for 3 days is more than we paid for our first house!!!!! How can they justify the mad prices to just sleep there?

Try checking out prices for hotels in Barcelona on your dates through hotelscombined.com or travelsupermarket.com or trivago.co.uk

I usually can find good deals through these!

Let us know how you get on. There are some great looking apartments with good prices for a family of 6.
  • Well, I've booked a lovely one bed apartment 10 mins from beach and Ramblas with all mod cons and balcony plus roof terrace. Had lots of contact with the owner etc. and now paid deposit.

Price £210 for 3 nights, much cheaper than a basic hostel. I've stayed in some very expensive hotels and had very noisy neighbours coming in at all hours and clacking about on tiled floors and sounding like they are having a Millenium Party, or had triple glazed windows and still heard police/fire engines zooming by.

I'm now researching tapas bars etc and hoping to eat/drink where the locals do. I'm used to little back street bars where the floor is covered in used serviettes, always a good sign.:)
