Could anyone advise me the cheapest way to get a divorce. My wie and I have been seperated for 5 years now and have both decided we need to get it sorted as we have both moved on. Never done this before so would like some advice?

Down load the court papers from the internet and take them in to the court and pay the fee - about £375.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0

hi, the court fee for issuing a petition is £340.00. The swear can be done for free if you swear at the court. The Decree Absolute will cost £45.00.
hope this helps0 -
You will hopefully find the court very helpful. There is usually at least one helpful person working there.
This will work fine if either you are very amicable and have agreed who gets what and have no concerns about this being fair, you don't care or you have no assets.
If you own a property together or either of you have any pensions of any size, I would look at getting legal advice.0 -
Thanks everyone , these 'cheap' quickie divorces are a con then I take it. Just for the record the property sale had been done a few years ago , we are very amicable and no disputes , its just tying up the loose ends.0

I have some experience with divorces and the cheap 'quickie' divorces you mention. The cheapest way to do it is to download the court forms and do it yourself. Just remember that if you have trouble with the court forms the clerks at the county court can help, but they are not legally trained.
You will need to complete the divorce petition which is called a D8. The courts then send the respondent an 'acknowledgement of service' which is filled in then returned to court. The courts then send this to you. You then need to complete an affidavit - a D80E for 5 year separation, making sure you 'exhibit' the form the respondent has completed (ther are detailed notes to assist). Once done, you submit to court to apply for Decree Nisi. The rest is very straightforward.
As already stated, £340 to submit, £45 to apply for the Absolute.
It sounds silly, but make sure you don't make any spelling errors and things like the place of marriage are copied exactly from the marriage certificate as the courts can be pretty pedantic!!
Hope that helps
Good luck.0
