exchanged contracts - a big thank you!!!

Hello

Would just like to say a thank you to everyone here who gave advice and supported me during my first-time buying a house in the UK.:j

Hazyjo ... and everyone else - a big thanks!

We're now looking towards completion. Just two quick queries really: first, we're in rented now - how many people would recommend using a professional cleaning service at the end of tenancy? The first quote we have is £400! Second, just to manage my expectations ... Would you expect the house you move into to be cleaned? Or would you allocate time to do so on completion day?

Thanks again! :T

Assume the house won't be clean and there will be no disappointments, if it is, then that's a bonus! :)

    Woohoo glad you're nearly there!

I find it's easy to clean once everything's been moved out. Allow time on moving-out day - unless you rented somewhere furnished?

Wish we'd got the cleaners in when we bought. Really thought she'd leave it immaculate for us. She seemed the type... funny how the ones you think will be clean are filthy mares. OMG the state of the cupboards! I think it'd be nice to have it professionally cleaned before moving in, but have never done so myself. There's absolutely nothing that says the house has to be clean for you to move in. Even if it's been cleaned, you'll probably still want to wipe down the kitchen cupboards with a flash wipe or whatever, so definitely consider getting the cleaners in if you can afford it and have time. Would be good if you could keep the rental for a day or so after completing - all depends on the timings.

    Good luck, and well done!

  • Thanks hazyjo - we actually have got one day extra on the rental. So your preference would be to have the purchased house professionally cleaned and the rented house you'd clean yourself? I think the thing preventing me is we're moving a half hours drive away and I'm keen to start my "new life" ;) Second quote in is £280, that is a lot of money though ...

Not sure we'll be able to have the new house cleaned as we are moving ourselves and our friend can only help on the completion day and has to be back home asap so no time really :( InkZ - think I will have to prepare for disappointment and go well-armed with cleaning stuff, and hopefully do one room ahead as we go.

Oh dear - looks like I may need to call in reinforcements for the cleaning op! Thanks guys - I suspected as much; I'm sure they're as keen to move as we are!

We're in rented and due to complete our purchase on 15th July. We have a few weeks overlap and I'm planning to get our new house cleaned professionally within the first few days, since I don't think the vendors would have time to do a thorough clean as well as move out. I'll then get our rented house professionally cleaned before the official end of our tenancy and I'm hoping it will be about £150-£200 (we just had my father-in-law's similar size (3 bed) house cleaned for £150 including the fridge-freezer and 2 carpets).
I suppose it depends on where you live - in London it'd cost a lot more than 'up north!'. Apparently an end-of-tenancy clean might need to be a bit more thorough than a simple domestic clean. I'm hoping an investment of £150 will help to ensure I get more of my £575 deposit back.

Congratulations to all movers! You might be lucky...

We had our flat cleaned (paid a cleaner) for our buyer and left him a box of chocolates and folder of information, instruction manuals etc. He even sent us a letter thanking us!:)

The house we bought was also spotlessly clean when we arrived, and the vendors had left us a bottle of posh bubbly!
