Faulty ring from Amazon

Hi guys,
I've bought a ring for my fianc!e less then 3 months ago directly from Amazon. Everything was fine with it as it seemed to be well made, until this weekend. The big amethyst stone fell off unnoticed during a walk and we couldn't find it.
It was quite expensive piece of jewellery but it seems the quality of wasn't up to standard. It was never worn in water, e.g. bath, washing, swimming, and was never exposed to any other adverse conditions.
Now Amazon says they cannot accept a return and give a refund as more than 30 days have passed since I received it.
Do I have a right to return a ring, from which the stones falling off? It doesn’t say anything good about its quality.
If something breaks off or fell off of an item you buy, surely you have the right to a refund or replacement at least.
I would appreciate any help and advice regarding this.
Many thanks.
Lucas

Who did you buy it from? Amazon themselves or one of the traders who use them as a marketplace?
That aside, yes, of course you have the right to a refund, repair or replacement for faulty goods. A stone falling out of a ring suggests it's not well made. As such you're entitled to recompense from the retailer. As this is within the first six months it's up to the retailer to prove it's not an inherent fault, i.e. not up to you to prove it is. A repair would be most appropriate I think for this kind of product (although you can't find the original stone which is a shame). No matter.. write to them specifically advising you want a solution under the Sale of Goods Act as the ring is less than six months old and not fit for purpose.
Their 30 day returns policy is nothing to do with the SOGA and will be about returning goods you've changed your mind about. This does not override your rights."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
It was from Amazon themselves.
Thank you so much for such a quick and clear response!!! Much appreciated. :T
I’ll contact them again and see what they’ll say.0 -

Thant was quick!
I've mentioned SOGA and based on it I've requested a refund. I've now received an email saying they authorised a full refund.
They will send me and email confirming when the refund is completed. I will check my statement in few days and then will send the ring back using their return label. I need to return it within the next 30 days.
Once again thanks a lot for your help fluffnutter :T0 -
