  • Wanted to hire a car in Melbourne Australia had a quote from Holiday Autos and a cheaper one from Ebookers car hire.Emailed Holiday Autos about their price match (Had used H/A in Spain a few times good sevice).Received a long Email from Holiday Autos but they end result was they would not match the lower hire rental.Found that Avis beat them all using a private car hire reduction due to the fact that the company I work for hires from Avis.

Anyone interested in hiring from holidayautos should phone them and quote the code "Meridian". I think it is a travel trade club but it should get you 25% off the phone price (not the net price, though). I've used it a few times and they never ask for membership numbers etc.

    Thanks JPR, it worked!

I said I was a member of the the Meridian Travel Club and they gave me 25% off. Here is the web link that tells you about the discount.

Autos Abroad - beware - they went v quiet last Summer (would like to say went bust but have to watch what I say - they had been cheapest in business but then last Summer none of their car hire partners abroad would honour their vouchers as they were taking customers money and not paying it on quickly enough in partner countries, andof course all their phone numbers and web went down so a v bad sign! ( Luckily paid by credit card and got all cash back but had to pay more for alternative and was v lucky to get anything at all from competitors in peak season) You have been warned...

I phoned up holiday autos for 1 weeks car hire in california - I phoned up as I needed to pickup and drop off at different locations. They quoted £198 on line with Barclaycard discount (£214 standard online) for convertable for a week. Yescarhire advertised at £194.24

After phoning up, and getting a quote, initially they quoted £287 for the phone price, then £234 (the 214 + £20 phone fee), then I said I could get it for yescarhire.com for £194, so they just charged £194.

They confirmed it was with alamo, and confirmed there would be no one way fee - important as national would have charged an extra $198!

I found them very helpful (and perhaps naively) feel a bit more comfortable using a 'known' brand.

I telephoned several big car rental companies armed with special offer codes from the weekends newspapers and got a reasonable quote for a weeks car rental for Majorca.
BUT they all wanted to charge 300 - 400 euros to my credit card for excess on possible collision damage to the car (NO chance of me agreeing to that).
So I rang up Holiday Auto's and asked them to price match the lowest price I had and bullsh*tted them that my lowest quote had no excess, they agreed to price match and include the collision damage excess waiver as well. Absolutely Wonderful.
ps. I have used them twice before with no problems at all.

    Used them 2 yrs ago

Whilst at the time I was annoyed at the phone queueing, they paid up under their excess claimback following damage during an attempted theft
