^^ Have seen this, people turning around in a narrow one way lane, in order to forward park into spaces that were designed for convenient reverse parking.....

I don't get how people think it's easier to reverse out of a space............

The steering end of your car is at the front, stuck between two parked cars and with limited room to manoeuvre!! It's great way to run a nice big dent down someone's door panel while your looking out of the rear instead of watching where the front is going!

It depends on the test centre. If it doesn't have a car park you won't be tested on it, and so some instructors won't bother teaching it. I wasn't taught, but I went into an empty carpark and tried til I could. I recently managed to park next to a fence and a huge 4x4 thing that took up half of my space as well - couldn't open the door after, but I got in the space!

I don't think it does, it is part of the test. I don't think that the examiners are allowed to just decide what part of the driving test to include or leave out, I don't think there is a choice.

I can totally relate to you op

I passed my test in April was never taught to park in a car park.

Did bay parking in the test centre but they were completey different with loads of space avaible if you mucked up to parking in a busy car park.

Keep practicing and don't worry. I normally get in then have to manovor back out to straighten up or if all else fails find a spot were i can drive forwards across two spaces and end facing out lol.

As hubby keeps saying to me it just takes time and you will get there.

    Most ridiculous argument every IMHO.

I reverse in sometimes, I drive in sometimes. I've never had any issues driving out, I've never had any issues reversing out. Most often, I try and drive in, drive through to the next space, then drive out again when I'm done - always easy enough if you park at the back of the car park.

    A complete non-issue.

Oh come off it! I've seen people do just this, but I've also seen people hop into their car to drive out, stick full lock on immediately and grind the front of the car next to them right down the side of their car as they were "watching where the front is going". Bad drivers will crash their car, no matter how they park.

Or just reverse park and do it in one simple, quick movement, no "straightening up" needed. :rotfl:

I know I will just get shot down in a hail of bullets, so I am going to put on my tin hat and body armour first.

Do I really have to guess at what gender the OP (and the others who find parking difficult) is?

Nope. :) But for every bad female driver, there's a bad male driver too! Stereotypes are fun to a degree though in driving...

We are not talking about "bad driving," in general (which is a debate for a different time), just parking. ;)
