As stated by jla1051 she can claim Income Support 11 weeks before the expected date of confinement and for 15 weeks after the birth of the baby. You can't claim Income Support because you won't satisfy the conditions of entitlement but she will.

Thanks, jla1051. That's effectivly what I meant, whether me OR my partner were entitled claim IS for the family. I'm feeling a lot of negative vibes from people on here regarding my employment status. Let me just remind them that just because the errors of the casino-style financial system has eliminated my oppourtunity for employment, that doesn't mean we are going to put our lives on hold regarding starting a family! At least I'm looking for work unlike some people that just want to sit at home watching Jeremy Kyle and drinking cheap cider. I'm hearing a lot of criticism but none of these people have offered me a job yet! I have worked in IT maintainance and IT second line support and have extensive networking and hardware knowledge, so please don't stereotype me as somebody who is lazy.

But you are supposed to be able to support said family before starting it. If everybody had your attitude, the country would be in even more of a mess and there would a lot more children born into households where neither parent works.

Secondly, it is not the responsibility of the (mostly) good people of MSE to find or even give you a job. It is, however, your responsibility as a partner and parent to financially support your offspring.

You need to be in a good financial state before starting an addition to the family. It is not up to the taxpayer to support your lifestyle. Have you looked outside an IT career to find extra finance?
Be happy, it's the greatest wealth :)
