  • Thanks for all your advice. I think the thing that is making me hesitate is what happens if someone else gets that job (doesn't have to be me) will she have to leave as her contract will end etc...yes, it could be someone externally who gets it, but my concern is what if I get it then she will be leaving and out of a job because of me.

But I will speak to my boss this morning...

    Thank you all.
  • Hi all. I just thought I'd update you on this situation at work. The job hasn't been advertised yet, but will be very soon. I've just emailed my boss and basically told her that this job/opportunity really excites me and I'm very keen to go for it, but asked her directly whether or not the girl who currently does the post on a temporary basis is earmarked for the job and the interviews will be just going through the motions (worded it much better though).

I've spoken to a senior colleage and in fact my ex boss who are very supportive and have told me I need to go for it (assuming I like the job description and grading) and my friend will have to understand.

I feel really crappy about it, but know that I have to go for it if it is the job I want. I feel better that I've actually come to a decision about that, but it wont be easy... I suppose I don't want to look like the bad guy, but at the end of the day, I've got a career to think about.

Anyway, just wanted to share with you.

    Cheers.
