I ordered two engraved signet rings from Argos on nov 19th for my DS's.
I was told they would take two weeks to arrive. I called Argos (via various automated messages) to check whether they had arrived. I was told that they had not arrived yet and someone would call me the following day to explain the hold up.
I recieved an answerphone message two days later to say that the suppliers had lost the order so they had to be re-ordered but should still be delivered before Christmas.
I got a call on Friday to say they were ready to collect.
When I went to collect them on ring was the wrong size. (When they re-ordered they had just put x2 on the order form when I actually need two different sizes)
The sales assistant attempted to ring the supplier to see if another could be sent out but couldn't get through.
I was told that a message had been left for the store manager who would call me today at 3pm to let me know whether the ring could be delivered in time.
No one called so I had to ring them. I was told it was the manager's day off so there was no-one to deal with my query but he would ring tomorrow.
10 minutes later someone called from argos asking to speak to Mrs Washington (they couldn't even get my name right!!)
They said that the ring had been put on urgent order but they couldn't guarantee would get it before Christmas. Their only solution was that I take the wrong sized ring to a jewellers and get it altered, then take the receipt into them for a refund.
What bugged me more than anything is that they were blaming the suppliers for bodge ups that were obviously the fault of their incompetent staff.
