Redundancy - getting new job?

Hi all,
Quick background: Hubby has been made redundant unfortunately. He'd worked there for 11.5 years. The company has gone into liquidation, he found out on the very last day when the liquidators turned up in the office, he filled out a few forms, went home, and that was that!
He did not receive a contract when working there.
Just a few quick questions... we'd be very grateful for your help!!
1. He has been told that he is entitled to both a redundancy payment and a "damages claim for breach of contract regarding notice of redundancy". How is the amount for the latter part calculated? Is it tax free, 1 week's pay for each full year worked?
2. The company may be bought from the liquidators by another completely separate existing company. We think that they are intending to give him his job back (although nothing is for certain). If this is the case, will this stop him from receiving the redundancy and/or breach of contract pay? Is there a time limit for this e.g. if he goes back to his old job within a month?
3. He has been told that he needs an "RP2" form to claim for the breach of contract pay. Can he claim for this at any point or does he need to wait until the statutory notice period has ended (I'm guessing this would be 11 weeks)?
Hope you can help... thank you
