What has happened to my display screen

can someone help please. The kids used my laptop at the weekend and now my display screen has changed. As I type here my screen is black with white writing. Also my photo as my wallpaper has now disappeared and its a windows logo. My favourites don't have any text next to them and when I click on my computers etc I don't get the text next to it. What have they done and how do I fix it???
