Expenses

I have to stay away on business. My employer is not paying for the hotel, I have to.

Can I claim back tax?

Thanks,

You may be able to claim tax relief on the expenditure but a bit more info would be needed.

However, if it were me, if it's a business trip and my employer wasn't paying I wouldn't be going. The tax relief will only get you back 20/40% of your cost.
  • Going to a meeting and they want me to share a room which I am not doing. So I need to pay for my own room.

Wont your employer even offer 50% of the cost?
  • Nope, not a penny, refused to listen.

    Get a new job.

Not an MP are you ?

Seriously, your employer is a joke and almost forcing you to pay for this yourself. I may well be reading up on constructive dismissal.

    Work for IKEA?
I understand that is what they expected their executives to do.
  • Almost as bad, but can't mention their name!

Does not both me particularly; I've been in the forces.

However you would not want to share with me - I can snore loud enough to wake myself up!

I wouldn't either. If they can't factor in a room then the company can't afford to send you.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.
