Pre existing med conditions

Hi
Can you opt not to have cover for pre existing medical conditions if a company normally charge extra?
ie Rheumatic changes in knee joint
and
ptosis (droopy eye lid)
hospital investigations have taken place for one and will have for the other before the holiday takes place.
Thank you for reading

I know with Post Office travel insurance they will still insure you, you just wont be covered for the pre existing conditions unless you pay extra and go through medical checks.Slimming World Member - Started 05/02/150

Some ask for disclosure (if you have been to a hospital or medic in the past ? months)
I had to ring up the underwriters about a hospital visit.
You have to be as water tight as a ducks behind with the small print to get a payment from Insurance companies these days!!0 -
Many thanks for the replies.
I don't intend to withhold any info just don't want to pay any extra for say the ptosis which is a cosmetic thing but still has been under investigation.

Just wanted to say well done if I am reading your credit card balance correctly and what you have achieved.

Ditto MoreThan: you are given the option to cover certain declared pre-existing medical conditions and told that if you don't take the extra you won't be covered for that condition --which is fair enough! I declared arthritic knee and occasional gout and was quoted circa £10 to cover those conditions for the year, which struck meas reasonable but I declined since I couldn't imagine circumstances where either would involve a claim even if they did flare up while abroad.Just because somebody is certain doesn't mean they are right!0

I would never not cover a PEMC.
Remember that any new condition that arises that can be remotely related to a PEMC will likely not be covered.
In the examples that have been given in the post by Unsure - what would you have done if your gout or arthritis had flared up so badly prior to departure or whilst away that you were simply unable to travel or necessitated additional medical treatment or hospitalisation whilst away?
Never worth the risk IMHO, doubly so when any loading is often so low as to not be noticeable in the grand scheme of things but I do understand that peoples' perception of risk will vary.0 -
more than lets you opt out as well0
