I am aware teaching staff had to have handed their notice in by May half term where we are but not sure if the same rules apply to support staff within a school setting.

Support staff have to give one month notice. It is only teaching staff that are required to give a term's notice.

OP, you might want to post on the Pay and Conditions forum of https://www.tes.co.uk - the posters there have specialist knowledge regarding school employment.

    Enjoy your new job!

If you've worked the whole academic year then you will get paid for it no matter whether you get the money in August or in your last pay packet in July. They will simply pay it all to you when you leave. They will also pay you your holiday pay. You won't lose out as long as you actually work until the end of term.

Many many thanks for those that have replied, I have taken on board all you said

I thought the Personel Manager might be a safe bet as she is a nice lady but of course you are right, I perhaps shouldn't be so niave ;)

My only concern now is that although I would work up to the end of term, the sweedish co only took over in April so they may say I didn't work for them for a whole year? I will post on the other board as suggested x

You should have been TUPE'd over which would take across all your terms and conditions and your start date would be your original start date. There should be some paperwork given to you which says whether you have been TUPE'd over or not.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

Yes, I' ve been TUPE'd! I don't understand the full implications of that though so that sounds promising. Can't thank you enough for posting back, I'm sure you must be busy at this time of the morning , but it's putting my worries to rest

Can you hand in your norice but give your leaving date as the end of August (whatever date that takes you up to a year's employment)?

My take on this is that if you get the new job, with 5 weeks to end of term, you would not start the new job until after end of term. Your big problem is that with a new company taking over, even though you are TUPE'd and retain your terms and conditions, the new company will probably not understand the arrangement and the fact that your pay is spread evenly through the year, so if you give notice in time to start the new job, they will probably terminate you ASAP, rather than let you run to the start of September, which is the employment anniversary and will give you the correct pay. No doubt that you would win your money, but it will be a big fight.

In your position, I would put in notice at the latest date possible for the effective date to be the anniversary of your start.

Thank you DVS ~ how come you said in two sentances what it took me to say in a whole load of waffle!! You are exactly correct, and yes I think,as Anacrusis suggests, I will date it for the end of August

I'm not doing anything underhand ~ I have worked for that pay, I just do feel naughty about it though :o
