Hello, nearly two years ago i had to sell my house and move in to rented housing,at the time i was working fulltime.
At the time i had a lumpsum of 60K, which i used to pay the rent and clear debts and a good holiday.
Now its nearly two years later, im no longer able to work due to what will be a longterm illness. I applied for housing benefit and have been refused has i had a lump sum.
Does anyone know when i would be entilted for help.I am a single parent with 3 children
Thank you liz

Can you prove that the majority of that £60k was spent on paying debts off?0

'Good Holiday, Pay off Debts' google 'Deprivation of Assets'
What is the nature of your long term illness.
Im sure you should be entitled to some sort of help so at least your children wont starve.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Hello, thank you for your replys.
I only paid 7k in debts, i also paid two years rent up front has i had a bad credit history and it was quite diffcult to find a landlord.
Six months ago i had an accident which lead to me lossing a large amount of blood ,which resulted in needing to be resuscitated. This has resulted in being diagnosed with temporal lobe epilepsy. My life has been confusing since then and will probably be having surgery this year.
I now recieve ESA and tax credits and still have around 7k in savings ,which i desprately trying to hold on to.
Thank you0 -
Once your saving are down to £6k, you will be able to claim a lot more benefits. Check on the benefits board here, but I think £6k savings is the limit for HB.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0

Your previous posts indicate that you were only considering selling the house in Jan 2010. Even assuming it was sold the day after those posts, your 2 years rent up front means that there is now no further rental liability until Jan 2012 at the earliest. I'm not sure why you would expect Housing Benefits to pay rent that isn't due?0

Yes your quite right my x brought me out of the house in jan.
Clearly my dates and spelling and understanding are not quite whaat they once where.0 -
Maybe OH wants HB to pay her back for two years advance rent she has paid. Why did landlord need two years? I would have offered 6mths advance with higher deposit.
Unfortunately savings limits are there for a purpose.
I also read somewhere on this forum thsat ESA limit was £6k? As I received two pension policy pay-offs and benefit agency staff were very
good at pointing out to me that if i took both pension payoffs together I'd be over the limit. So I took them seperately to avoid going over limit.
I also used money to clear debts & have paid £990 for two week holiday to Devon.
Paid £495 contribution to Motability car, this leaves me around £3k for future needs.0 -
The savings limit for housing benefit is £16,000. And if you've got less than that but they think you've wasted money they will make calculations assuming that you still have it.0

I have sympathy for the OP. She tried to do the right thing but had to sell her home. I have more sympathy for the OP than the countless EU people flooding into the UK, without a days work here to their name to claim housing and child benefit as we are a well known soft touch as well as drain out education and social services.
In fact they boast and laugh at how stupid the UK is.
I know of instances of EU families claiming all the benefits we are stupid enough to give while they want to work for cash in hand. How silly are are we and those spineless politicians?
I hope the OP finds a solution. Maybe you can speak with your local councillor or MP.0 -

Or perhaps, once she has finished trying to get the taxpayer to fund her spending of £50k+ in 18 months (must have been one hell of a holiday) she should just retire to the European mainland, as so many Brits do, to become a drain on their resources in the expensive twilight of their years, establishing their little Britain overseas, where even the native language is shunned.
I think that's a much more likely prospect than you ever talking sense, you reactionary, Daily Mail reading muppet!0
