Is there any way other than this of calling french 0892/0810 etc ie non geographic nos? Increasingly they are the only option for insurance, banks etc. This works, but costs £1.53 per minute.

This site has a (limited, I think) directory of some geographic or 09 alternatives. (In France, 09 is an equivalent of UK 03.)

Or (if you haven't tried this already) you can try telling the bank etc that their 08 number doesn't work from the UK, and ask for a geographic alternative.0 -
nothing 'radin' (mean) about refusing to pay through the nose to call your bank. I've tried with the bank but they have only got a geographic no for lost or stolen cards and that's automated0
