Universal Laptop Charger Problem?!

Well a couple of weeks ago I purchased this charger -
I am not allowed to post links so just google
"IT WORKS ACU65H 65W UNIVERSAL POWER ADAPTOR"
A comet charger should show up.
All was well until I left my laptop at home with the family for two days and came back to find it broken
The tip I use for my charger was broken, the metal part was almost snapped off and this wouldn't be a problem if Comet sold the pin seperately.. or if I could find this on ebay... but I can't
The thing stopping me is that these tips have 3 pins instead of 1, which I cannot find on ebay...
So is it possible to fix this tip? if not where can i get the tip without having to buy another charger again?
I called up comet and they were useless, telling me 'I guess you could look on ebay...'
Thanks in advance.

I'll post what I assume is the link (if not shout)..

Those tips do look to have a different connection to the cable from most I've seen (which have 2 pins) but I doubt they have 3 pins. Where is the third pin?
If you can solder or know somebody who can then the easiest solution would be to buy the correct power plug, cut the multi-tip adaptor off and solder the new tip to the lead. You'd need access to a multimeter to get the polarity right. Maplin for a physical comparison with the old plug but they are robbing sods and eBay would be cheaper even with post.0 -

Yes you are correct, that is the charger.
I'm not sure if you understand what I'm asking though, the tips and charger do match, but the tip I use has broke on the laptop end and I need a replacement/ fixing of that - here is the pics of both charger tip and the end of the actual tip

Hmmm... can't get my head around why there are three pins. Usually it's 2 and you turn the end around to reverse the polarity.
My understanding is that the plug that fits your laptop is broken. I doubt you'll find a three pin replacement end and certainly it wouldn't be a single one. That's why I suggested a dumping the ability to swap ends and just fit a plug on it which fits your laptop.
There can be wide variations in the plugs - outside diameter and inside diameter (to fit the pin) both vary. Just getting the correct outside diameter doesn't guarantee that it will fit correctly which is why you may need to eyeball the replacement. They aren't what I'd call cheap on ebay either which may make Maplin more attractive.

The one you'd need would be in this range and they are cheaper than I expected as you can get stung badly at Maplin...

You'd need to solder it on though.
They do some plug on power tips but I didn't see any like yours.0 -
what laptop is the charger required for. Maybe cheaper to buy a cheaper psu from ebay.
example Universal AC/DC Power Adapter For Laptop home charger £15.99 and no i dont work for them I have bought from them.

I would personally steer clear of cheap ones; often they need you to use a screwdriver to select voltage as well and have few failsafes. They're the kind that work fine as long as they're perfectly setup, then one careless mistake could result in a rather annoying situation. I'd recommend finding an automatic one; have PM'ed you, as I've bought one myself recently and started a thread here.
Always interested in hearing about new deals for cameras/lenses, cheap flights/holidays, and video games. PM me if you have any I haven't heard of!

I can find a charger on ebay, its just that im gutted that I spent 45 pounds on this only for it to break in 4 days...
Found the comet receipt though, its opened & one pin is damaged, any hope for a refund/exchange?
they say a 12 month warranty on all electricals...0 -
Ah ha, now that's different!
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3294994 is what I'd recommend if you wanted a new one
But frankly if you still have the receipt, don't buy a new one at all - exchange at Comet!
If it's only one pin that's missing, make sure you make it clear to Comet that it's a manufacturer defect rather than misuse by yourself (to be honest it's hard to bend a single pin unless you've done something quite wrong). Mention the pin was always loose and simply came off when you plugged it in one day. The charger was otherwise taken care of.
Hopefully you'll get an exchange / refund! Let us know how it goes.

Sounds like great news! although a problem that could arise is that I have thrown the papers that came with it and literally ripped open the packaging with a knife... :rotfl: hopefully they'll look past that I guess.0 -
I have an IT WORKS ACU65H 65W Universal Power Adaptor and the same thing has happened to mine. I may have the tip you need from my pack and visa versa.0

If you want a refund or a replacement then you'll require proof of purchase-not necessarily a receipt. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
