I've won billions in cyberworld and seen just about every scam there is but what's this one?:
Phone rings and I pick it up and wait. There's no answer for a few secs then I hear the ringing tone (I haven't touched any buttons, just picked up the phone) then someone answers and says hello. I put down the phone in case there's a way for someone to ring your phone and somehow cause it to ring perhaps a premium line.
Any ideas?

Call centres for some customers will call and then once connection is made will then try to connect to a person rather then the person directly calling you. Its a pain but when the connection goes dead it normally means that no-one is available to take your call that they made to youone of the famous 50

could be call centre autodialler, waiting for a live call pickup( you!) to be assigned to an available rep..Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..
Sometimes seen lurking on the compers forum :-)0 -
yeah will be an automated dialler.
Call centres usually call 3 lines per "agent" that they have on the floor at the time, going on the logic that not everybody is going to be at home so many will ring out. Of course they are only legally allowed to "drop" a certain % of calls that actually connect to a person as people (particularly the elderly and vulnerable) don't appreciate silent calls!
All that said, it's odd that they said "hello" rather than "can I speak to Laz 123" please seeing as they'd know it was an outbound call list!"We can all fly as high as the dreams we dare to live...........unless we are a chicken" ~ Anon.0 -
Yup - they are annoying.
Maybe next time I get one, I'll ask if "Jimmy" is there because last time I called he was busy.
That should confuse them!0
