Cleaning up a very dusty house

No, I haven't neglected the housework...I'm having my concrete floors drilled into for some pipes. This has thrown up immense amounts of dust, coating every available surface.

I'm going to hire a big old vacuum cleaner from HSS or someone, but the air is really thick with dust so I'll need a mask. Is there a particular standard of filter I should look for? Only spent half an hour in there and it already feels like I've smoked a box of cigars.

Can't you just let it settle, then get loads of damp rags? or water spray it first? open windows?
Have you not got any dust masks so your not inhaling.

What about one of these? We bought one & found it very good -http://www.screwfix.com/p/28-day-a1p2-mask/14194

And, as an alternative to hiring an industrial hoover for dust, we purchased a 'Henry' which did the trick - cheaper option probably.

If possible, wash everything down with a damp cloth/damp mop - that will collect a lot of dust after hoovering.

Please be careful, the elements in concrete are very toxic. I work for a concrete product manufacturer and the health and safety
rules given to the men working with it are as long as your arm.

Let it settle and dont use water with it, it'll set like concrete:D

Get the people who drilled in to the concrete to tidy up after themselves.

Yeah, my lungs didn't feel too great after just a short time in there. I'm planning on letting it settle then donning some overalls and a mask and getting in there with a vacuum.
