Credit Card Fraud

My partner reported a fraud on his credit card to his bank at the beginning of May, transactions to Ebay India totalling a lot of money. His bank were not even suspicious even though he had not advised he had left the country, no goods were to be sent to us in UK and he was buying petrol in this country on the same card on the same days.My partner doe not have an ebay or paypal account, never has had. His card is used purely for petrol and paid in full each month. On 09.05.11 the bank wrote and said may take up to 6 weeks to resolve, nearly 2 months now and no where nearere. Not helped by the "vouchers" coming from Indis getting lost in post and having to be sent again. Although we have already put it in writing that he did not make these transactions. As he is unable to clear this debt, still on his card he has been charged for going over his credit limit as still needs it for work petrol and had threatening alls demanding he pays in full immediately.
Do they not have time limits to how quickly their enquiries can take or are we completely at the mercy. They admitted if we had not reported it it was not even flagged as suspicious when they say on their web site they are continually checking for suspect transactions. Not helped by language difficulties when you finally get through.

Just out of interest which credit card was it? On a brighter note be glad that it was his credit card and not his debit card. As your partner did not make the transactions he will not have to pay the money, it is just a shame that the bank are not being a bit more lively. All the best.
