PPI Cahoot Claim - any advice?

Hi, I'm considering trying to claim the PPI I paid on a cahoot loan back in 2005. I realised I was paying PPI when the balance of the loan didn't seem to be dropping much. I have infact got a copy of a letter I sent them at the time to complain about it. At the time they fobbed me off and so I just re-financed the loan with another provider. I have long since paid this off.
Now I have come across this letter I sent it includes the account number so I feel inclined to have a go at claiming the PPI.
Does the fact I took the loan elsewhere have a negative impact on my claim? Or does this prove my point?
I am also a bit unclear about where to send my claim. Cahoot seems to still exist as part of what is now Santander so I guess I should just send it back to Cahoot using the template letters?
I don't have any of the paperwork for the loan anymore. Doubtless thrown out in a huff! So no idea what the loan amount was for - not more than £4000 - or how much ppi I actually forked out, but my complaint says over £40 per month.
Anyone had a go at trying to claim from Cahoot?
Any advise gladly recieved.

Dear all,
If you are going for Cahoot - now Santander - please see Phillmarsh's post about this.
I have used his fantastic template letter to recoup a pretty substantial amount of money.
Many thanks!0
