Anti Mate Spray

Hi

Does anyone know if it is still possible to buy this spray? We used to buy it in the 70's, and although I am not sure just how effective it is, I thought it might help to spray on the gates etc. to keep amorous canine males away.

I have no idea about the spray I'm afraid, but surely if your dog is spayed, amourous males wouldn't want to visit anyway and there wouldn't be a problem?
Please excuse my bad spelling and missing letters-I post here using either my iPhone or rathr rubbishy netbook, neither of whch have excellent keyboards! Sorry!

Yes, you can still get it - and it's as useless as it ever was :rotfl:.

When my old stud dog was still alive, if we turned up at a show and a female had been sprayed with it, he could smell it from across the showground .

Why do you think you need it? Can you not keep your female in a secure area, inaccessible to other dogs?

Supremely unhelpful! This dog who has come into season before she could be spayed has come to us to foster for the next 14 weeks.

We have 4 other dogs, all have been spayed/neutered and our back garden is all fenced off with high fences, but we have tall wrought iron gates across the drive and I am wondering if we may get little bands of males serenading us, I was going to spray round the gate area.

Still, we have had to take her to the vet today because she has come to us with her paw strapped up, she has had a corn removed and needed the dressing replaced. She has also had to have a miki boot. (sp). The vet says you can get Anti Mate but doesn't set great store by it. It is such a long time since we have had a dog who was in season that I am being extra cautious.

Looking on the bright side, we don't get many dogs roaming round, only the odd one who has escaped because someone left the door open. :)
  • I think you can get an injection to stop the seasons? (but not sure if it has to be given before they start)

The vet told us that you can hurry along the season if needed (probably the injection you mention) but we would prefer to let it take its course really, we just want to be as vigilant and careful as we can. Thanks though.

You could always try making a spray with Oil of Eucalyptus and spraying that around the gate if necessary - though TBH her scent will carry in the air and a persistant male will know she's there.

If possible, avoid letting her in the front garden to minimise the risks. HTH :D

I think you are right and her scent will carry in the air, possibly a water pistol would be more use.

We never let our dogs loose on the front garden, it is one of those open plan affairs, we prefer to keep them locked in the house at the front. Would much prefer a wall round the front, but we like the house and it was what we could afford, so it was bye bye wall! :)

They sell one in pets at home called 'B1tch Spray' never tried it though.

There's a big black dog that is often out at night (when the dog warden has gone home annoyingly) and if Bunny is in season he usually comes by and pines by our back wall.

They also sell little sanitary pants and pads too if you've got fabric sofas for instance and she's not keeping on top of cleaning herself. Bunny's fine at keeping herself now and Loki is always happy to help lol but she wasn't great with her very first season.

Thanks, she seems to keep herself very clean, but it is handy to know that these things are available. Dinosaurs were roaming the earth last time we had a !!!!! who was in season, I guess there is much more than Anti Mate available now. :)

Oops, seems that the word !!!!! is beyond the pale!
