it's not a scam if they ran out due to loads of people taking out the sub, i dont spose they expected it to be posted on the mse forum?

you've posted whilst angry and called it a scam because you didnt get what you thought you were intittled to. as was said above i dont think you should take out a mag sub just fir the free gift then moan if you dont get it.

I know from experience being rude dont get you nowhere with the CS it's really dont the person on the end of the phones fault. is it?

Questioned him thoughly? did you really rant at him and provoc him to put a note on your file? dont answer on here just ask your self.

it would have been better to do as edna said. politeness is the key.

  • - If you DO phone, they offer cheap 'alternatives'. I was offered some Charles Worthington shampoo, or a Good Housekeeping cookery book. Neither are of anything like the quality of the original gift offered.

How much shampoo did they offer you? Don't take the name of Charles Worthington in vain, i pay £3 a bottle for that stuff on special offer lol.

  • im sure the magazines do have small print that say limited stock only or while stocks last.

if you subscribe to a magazine i would only do it for the mag, if you get an extra pressie than that is a bonus.

im sorry u feel disapointed. i hope it all goes ok.

with reagrds to the shampoo it may have been a set for around the same price as this brand can be quite pricey

They definately do - its that little line that stops me from subscribing :)

Oh, and you should have posted this in the Vent board and not on the freebies board 'cos it aint a freebie, its a vent :)
Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...

The original thread about the offer is HERE on the Shop But Don't Drop board. The subscription cost £12 for 12 issues of the magazine (plus the chocs) so it wouldn't be appropriate to post it on the 'Freebies' board. :)

If you check the last few pages of that thread many people (including myself) have received the chocolates as advertised so the offer wasn't actually a 'scam' - just a limited offer. The magazine company are offering a replacement free gift to those who missed out.

It's just one of those things unfortunately.

"Don't answer on here"? Oh, but I MUST, Lewt; you have been so sanctimonious and judgemental that the only thing that will make me feel better is telling you so.

Of course people subscribe for the gifts not the magazine - that's why they're offered! Magazines are transient, desultory reading. No-one really wants a whole year's worth; marketing departments know this, and offer the welcome gifts to overcome this obstacle.

You may classify my remarks as a moan - your prerogative. Some people get off on criticising others on these threads; I don't care. Personally, I don't like replies with poor spelling and textspeak; but it takes all sorts to make a world.

I've taken out subscriptions before; and never been offered cheaper alternatives. I don't see why it should be considered as moaning to point out that the subscriptions dept is still advertising some very expensive hair straighteners as a 'gift', whilst admitting that they don't have them any more to send out.

I'm pointing out the deficiencies of the 'welcome gifts' offered by SHE in the spirit of public information. Not everyone will want to gamble the price of the subscription on getting - or not getting - the gift they wanted. With hindsight, I wouldn't have. But it's too late now, they have debited my account.

I know were you are coming from mademoiselle. The same thing happened to me a number of months ago with Red magazine. They were offering a Decleur gift with subs. I applied, but got no gift. I complained to high heaven, no alternatives were offered though, just tough the stuff has run out and the advert says only as long as supplies last. No amount of cajoling/grumbling got me anywhere.

    I too felt conned.

Unfortunately once an offer like this gets onto here it tends to be oversubscribed, one of the joys or pitfalls of this community I suppose.

With an attitude like that, I suspect that you may find other BBs more to your taste than MSE.

We understand that you are cross but people here have tried to politely tell you than an alternative approach might pay better dividends and you've just been cutting to them in return, including lewt.

You've also libelled a powerful company on MSE - perhaps you might care to have a bit of consideration that it is not you but the site owner who gets the flak over things like this?

I agree with what everyone has said about CS - I get very angry with companies who let me down but I always preface my calls with words to the effect of "Look, I'm really cross with the way your company has let me down, but I recognise that it's not your fault and you're just the poor so and so who has had to answer this call today - can I tell you what happened?"

After that most of them go out of their way to help if they can - probably because so many people treat them so badly.

If they don't help after that, well then they really deserve all they get!

As I say, people here have given you genuinely meant feedback on your comments - if you can't take that, respect it and move on, then I suspect most will not be as helpful with your next rant.
  • BTW - let me quote from one of mademoiselle's earlier MSE posts:
...I worked for Citizens Advice Bureau; I know the misery caused by money worries. Applying for freebies - even if you can't remember what they were! - is harmless fun. And remember, each and every company whose freebie gets mentioned on here is receiving FREE, benevolent, national publicity that far outweighs the minimal cost of posting a few sweets and trinkets.

Blimey - you'd think someone who had been on the "receiving end" at the CAB might be a bit more tolerant! :D
