Provider not paying for airtime

I know this relates to a business line, but I'm hoping some folks here can offer some advice.
A friend receives a letter on Saturday 18th June from Edge Telecoms, saying their telecoms supplier Forest Communications hasn't paid for the Airtime / Service time, and as of 12 noon tomorrow, Tuesday 21st they will no longer have service, unless they sign a new contract with Edge.
This letter was dated 15th June. How do they stand on notice? surely more warning should have been given?
They have requested a MAC Code from Edge, but really worried of the timescale concerned.
Looking at moving to Plusnet, for both phone and broadband, but there needs to be a working line to enable Plusnet to take over.
Plusnet seem to be saying that once given the MAC code, the business shouldn't be disconnected, as a transfer request is in place.
They are still waiting for a response to the MAC Code request.
Any advice on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated
Regards

Thank you, if moderator can move, it will save reposting.
Have been trying to get answers from Edge Telecoms.
They are talking about 'ceasing' our line.
I believe, the line shouldbe stopped. so the new provider can take it over.
The MAC code has been given, but with the timescale, the line will be disconnected in one form or another, before that code can be activated.
