I have read the post about the £25 free and I also received the offer in the post the last time round but didnt use it.
This time round First Direct have mailed me Feb 2005 offering me £35 to open an account so long as I deposit £100 before the end of April.
It may be worth asking for If you havent had the mailshot.
ps I cant find a code on the letter so I asume it is just for me personally
