Perhaps your freezer breathed a sigh of relief and the food shuffled itself around to try to get more comfortable! Not Rachmaninov

This made me giggle as I could picture all the odd shaped packs in my freeezer shuffling around in the extra space giving each other the elbow.:rotfl:Slimming World at target0 -
Shuffling my freezers around now as I'm cooking the Xmas day soup (carrot and corriander) and need some space to freeze it!!
Had a little think about the annual budget for 2012 and difinitely thinking now to be as frugal as possible during the 1st 10 weeks or so and run down some of the stash. It would be nice just to spend £200'ish for 10 weeks but depends on what offers come available. Not missing out on great items just to be frugal. I'll just stop buying lesser value stuff that clogs up the freezers.

Thats what I am thinking too. I started a list of whats in freezer and
mealsIcan make. Was shocked at the amount I have.
Reckon I can easily do enough for Jan and Feb. but of course as you say wont pass up a bargain if I see one.
I think it makes a lot of sense to do this at the begining of the year rather than reining in the budget nearer next Christmas.Slimming World at target0 -

And I have 3 packs of split peas I have no idea what to do with.

Split peas are lovely in a dip, similar to houmous but less hassle to make as don't have to soak them or cook for ages. Just cook for about 45 mins then puree with cumin seeds, garlic, olive oil, salt & pepper. 100g makes enough for about 3 days, lovely with hot home made bread
As for this 'challenge' I've done a complete list of cupboard, fridge and freezer and was shocked to find I could easily survive for the next 3 months without buying anything!! ok it might be a bit repetitive and bland in places but that is a shocking amount of food to keep in a small kitchen! Can't wait to get some space back and to stop stocking up in future.0 -

Panicking you mean.
I did originally work it out at 6 months @ £100 and 6 months at £150 = the £1500 budget.
Frugal start seems more sense since the food is there anyway.
I've already earmarked March and May as easy months as I'm going on holiday, though March is only for 4 days. May should be a doddle month and nearly half-way then. lol

This is such a great thread! I've been dipping in and out, and it has definitely made a difference as I am running things down nicely, and my expenditure on food has plummeted (money spent on drink has gone up wildly though
). My freezer has space for the first time in ages, as has my pantry cupboard and I'm making plans to use up multibuys that I bought in good faith but haven't touched (eg kettle crisps, breadsticks, lots of other party goodies). I haven't had to buy anything naughty this season...not working for the next 2 days and the sun is shining so I was thinking of going for a long walk and visiting my local fruit & veg stall at the same time before a bigger shop at Lidl tomorrow. Now I'm thinking, do I really need to buy anything on the list? Just had a 3 line whip from my parents that I will be with them this weekend, even if I resist the freezer will do me nicely.
Might buy some lychees this afternoon, but that will be it.
