Was made redundant 6 weeks ago. Luckily, I'm now working for myself on an IT contract.
However, I need my P45 to sort out salary etc. Contacted my ex-employers centralised payroll people and they said they'd sent me my P45 but they couldnt send me a copy.
I havent recieved it so I cant comment on whether they ever sent it or it got lost in the post. Surely if its this important they should have sent it recorded?
Surely they cant now refuse to send me a copy, can they? Whats the law regarding this?

This happened to me! My P45 and redundancy payment cheque were sent out in standard post and didn't arrive. The cheque wasn't cashed fortunately! I contacted my employer who initially said that it was impossible to reissue a P45 but after a few days they decided they could do it after all and sent me a new one.
Can you use a P46 if they won't reissue yours?0 -
An employer is not allowed to issue a second P45 you need to complete a P46 at your new employment the tax office will then get the P45 details and pass on to your new employer.0

I know they cant send you a new P45, but i cant see any reason why they cant send you a copy of the originalmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Maybe they should have sent it recorded delivery if they've got such an issue about sending a replacement.0
-
It's not their issue, they're not allowed to do it by law.Whatever0

So hang on they've legally got to give me one, but they dont have to make sure it gets to me, and they cant send a replacement?
Tell you what I'd do if I was an employer who couldnt be bothered. Yeh, I did send it honest.0 -

Not clever; you don't screw around with the tax office.
Ask them for a 'Statement of Earnings' ie a headed letter confirming the figues, then contact the tax office for advice. If they have received their copy then it will be straightforward, and if they haven't they will contact the ex employer directly who will undoubtable do as they are asked once approached by the HMRC."On behalf of teachers, I'd like to dedicate this award to Michael Gove and I mean dedicate in the Anglo Saxon sense which means insert roughly into the anus of." My hero, Mr Steer.0 -
So assuming you don't have a P45 and you then complete a P46, your new employer will give you a P60 next year which includes the pay from your previous and current employment within this tax year?
Or will the P60 only cover the amount earned from your current employment within this tax year?0 -

This will depend if the tax office is able to give the details to your new employer.
Assuming all runs smoothly then the tax office advise the new employer of your correct tax code along with details of gross and tax paid in your previous employments (ie the P45 details) and these details then appear on the P60 exactly as if a P45 had been handed in. If however for one reason or another, perhaps the new job starts near the tax year end, or the employee does not want P45 details passed on, then all that will appear on the P60 is details of the new job.0 -
Turns out my old employer admitted they hadnt actually send me the P45 after all !!!!
Got it now. Bit more complicated because I've set up my own ltd company now so I'm my own employer but I needed the P45 and didnt want to waste time sorting things out.0
