Help me find a bank account!

Options
I looked through the guides for best bank accounts, but these accounts are more aimed at current account users, which is not what I'm after.

I'm a student and I'm pretty awful with money, in an attempt to organise my finances I have taken to giving all my student loan and grants to my Gran. She keeps 'em safe for me. And drip feeds me my budget each month. This has worked out really well so far. However, my Gran is currently using her own personal account for this, and me and her would both rather my money was kept separate from hers so my Mum has said she will take over. She wants to open a separate bank account just for my money though. She also doesn't want it to be Barclays or Nationwide as this is where she has her main accounts and she'd rather it be completely and utterly separated from her main finances.

So I figured I should come here and ask if anyone can recommend me an account that offers some sort of bonus or offer that maybe good for me.

1. A regularly salary will not be paid into it.
2. First deposit into the account will be around £1200
3. After that it will be around £2k every 4 months, with regular monthly outgoings (rent and maintenance/allowance)
4. An overdraft is not required at all.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a bank account that might offer me something? I'm aware for an account with such little money going into it one probably won't exist, but its worth a try.

Thanks!

Accepting that you don't want an overdraft, you might be best avoiding the student accounts. You might want to consider a basic bank account. There are details of them here.

Do you want/need a debit card? A cheque book? Internet banking? A branch near your home?

Internet banking yes, and a branch near my home would be alright, but not necessary if transactions could be made online.

Cheque book and debit card not needed.

Well seeing as this would technically be my Mums account, I somehow doubt she'd get a student account!

I'm considering the basic account as it seems nice and straightforward but I was unsure if any non-basic accounts offered interesting offers or deals that would make it worth while.
