it won't mess your computer up unless you set your PC on fire while downloading.
It plays pretty much anything and is safe to use0 -
Personally I remove the tick from File Association when installing, so that I can choose which files it plays. But if you are happy for it to become the Default player then leave it in.
It's a good player, but if you have a weedy machine, try Media Player Classic instead.0 -
It's an amazing media player - by far the best I've come across on both Linux and Windows platforms.
It shouldn't "mess up" your computer as it's very well behaved and despite everything that goes on "behind the scenes", it's simple to use.
I say go for it!0 -
As for me I prefer this program to the media player. Cause you can play almost any format. 3gp, mp4 and avi.:j:j:j0

...use vlc and media player classic...between them they'll play pretty much anything......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
I'll echo what others have already said, VLC is a great player and will play just about anything. I always associate videos (except WMV) with VLC and not audio files.
There is an alternative to VLC: SMPlayer http://smplayer.sourceforge.net/ which is pretty good too and has some nice features such as "One of the most interesting features of SMPlayer: it remembers the settings of all files you play. So you start to watch a movie but you have to leave... don't worry, when you open that movie again it will resume at the same point you left it, and with the same settings: audio track, subtitles, volume" However I had some problems playing subtitles from an M4V file which VLC played without problem.0 -
vlc is awesome as a player ; free, no spyware or adware, light-weight install - and plays anything u care to throw at it ! :cool:A new abacus

VLC is excellent - I'd recommend it.0

For me, the single feature that alone makes VLC a must-have is its sharpening filter. I've tried just about everything other media player and nothing has the same ability to make even a mediocre SD file look crisp and tack-sharp. I just wish I could control the sharpening level via a hot-key.0

I use VLC with XP computers but for Windows 7 it isn't needed0
