PPI Claim

I want to put a claim in to my bank for missold PPI but I no longer have any paperwork.

I know the start date, the end date and the monthly amount but I do not know the loan account number.

Would I need to quote the account number ( as shown on MSE's template letter ) or is it sufficient just to quote the details which I know ?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Steve

I'd probably ask them for the loan number first. Give the bank as much information as you can to help them trace your account; full name, date of birth, address(es) at the time of the loan.

Then when you make your complaint, there's no risk of the paperwork going astray because there's no account number. And if you need to chase, it will make life much easier for you. There's nothing more frustrating than trying to chase a complaint which nobody can find because it's sitting in a 'no account number' pile.
  • I wrote to my bank and gave them as much info as possible and requested the loan account number but my bank refused to give me that info because the loan had been repaid in full and the file was closed. Are they allowed to do this or can they be forced to give me the infomation I want.

They should still be able to trace the loan, using your DoB, Address, and Account Number - Even if the loans have been paid off. I didn't give Lloyds a loan number with my complaint PPI, and they were able to track them (yes, there were 3 loans involved) down.

You can only force them to provide ALL the information they hold on you in a relevant filing system (which basically means what reasonably competent temp could find with the information you have given).

This is done by a Data Subject Access Request for which they can charge up to £10 and must comply within 40 days of receipt.

However, that is not the same as saying the information you want will be revealed in what they hold in a relevant filing system.
