home shopping

I was an agent for a home shopping catalogue, very stupidly i let a friend order white goods which she did pay for a few months then she refused to pay, I contacted the catalogue and asked them to collect the monies direct from her, they refused, the reason being I was the agent and therefore my responsibilitie, I could not get any payment from her, this leaves me in debt to the catalogue, this was in 2008 and this is ongoing since then, at the present time I have debt collectors who say they will take me to court and try to declare me bankrupt, I cant see how they can do this as the debt is not mine, I did not sign a credit agreement but neither did the customer, this was an oversight, the catalogue did not supply one, I had been an agent since 1979, the only corespondence I received from them was a monthly statement I never received any new legislation regarding the running of the agency. Where do I stand in this situation ?

Pretty sure as an agent you would have had to stand to this as they used to get commission on sales so liek a small business.A similar post to this got replies from people saying that catalogues did away with agents a few years ago so you'd be classed as a regular cutomer and still have to stand to it.

In which case there is no enforceable debt, for either of you.
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark
